Ranking criteria for new trainers

S-tier (early) — Available on first routes or as your starter; strong typings for early trainers; learns useful STAB and one coverage move without TMs you do not have yet.

A-tier — Requires modest backtracking or slightly rarer spawns; excellent in one role (tank, sweeper, status) through mid-story.

B-tier — Situational but worth one party slot for type coverage until a better counter appears.

C-tier and below — Dex filler, challenge runs, or species that need Rally Ranch investment before they outperform route catches.

S-tier early-game staples

Starter lines (Embit, Dimpool, Fevine, and evolutions) — Your beginner choice from Mitis Town is never wrong for story. Each covers one type well enough to learn battles. Pair your starter with wild partners that answer its weaknesses using How to Catch Loomians and Spare setups.

Geklow line (Electric) — Route Electric types punish Water-heavy wild tables and many early trainers. Fast enough to outspeed unprepared foes; remains relevant until Heiwa’s Fire theme forces safer switches.

Twilat line (Dark) — Accessible Dark typing helps Silvent Battle Theatre previews and teaches resistance habits. Not a solo carry, but an S-tier coverage slot for beginners who lack Light and Dark answers.

Snubby / Bunpill-style bulky normals (Normal tank) — Normal typings soak hits while you learn healing loops at Loomian Centers. Low offense but high forgiveness for new players learning switch timing.

A-tier popular route catches

C-tier and below for day-one investment

Avoid heavy investment early in:

• Roamer-adjacent or event-only species you cannot replace if fainted
• Glass cannons with no bulk and no priority until you understand type switches
